Pool Filter Cleaning & Maintenance:
The Key to Crystal-Clear Water

Your pool filter is arguably the hardest working piece of pool equipment you own. It acts as the "kidney" of your pool, removing invisible debris, oils, dust, and microscopic particles. When the filter is dirty, it can't clean your water, leading to cloudiness, algae growth, and immense strain on your pool pump. At Poolvana Pool Care, we offer professional, deep-cleaning services for all pool filter types to maximize efficiency, protect your pump, and guarantee sparkling pool water.

Why Professional Filter Cleaning is Critical

Regular rinsing is not enough. Over time, hair, organic waste, sunscreen, and mineral scale embed themselves deep within the filter material. This leads to two major problems:

  1. Reduced Efficiency (Cloudy Water): The filter can no longer trap fine particles, making your water permanently hazy or cloudy.

  2. Pump Strain and Damage: A clogged filter drastically increases the pressure inside the filter tank (known as "high pressure" or "high PSI"). This forces your pool pump to work harder, shortening its life, accelerating wear and tear, and increasing your electricity bill.

We recommend a professional, deep clean at least 2–3 times per year for Florida pool owners, or more frequently depending on bather load and debris.

Our Professional Filter Cleaning Process by Type

The cleaning process varies significantly depending on whether you have a Cartridge, DE, or Sand filter. Our technicians are experts in all three, ensuring the right process for your specific pool equipment.

1. Cartridge Filter Cleaning (The Deep Soak)

The Challenge: Cartridges trap fine particles but cannot be backwashed effectively. They require physical removal and chemical treatment to fully clean the pleats.

  • Process:

    1. Shutdown & Disassembly: We safely shut down the pool pump, release pressure, and dismantle the filter tank.

    2. High-Pressure Rinse: We rinse the cartridges to remove all large, loose debris.

    3. Chemical Soak: The cartridges are submerged in a commercial-grade filter cleaning solution designed to dissolve deeply embedded oils, sunscreen, and mineral scale (like calcium).

    4. Final Rinse & Reassembly: The cartridges are thoroughly rinsed again and carefully placed back into the filter housing. We inspect and lubricate the housing O-ring to ensure a perfect seal.

2. DE Filter Cleaning (The Grid Inspection)

The Challenge: Diatomaceous Earth (DE) traps the smallest particles, but the internal grids can tear or become saturated with oils, blocking effective filtration.

  • Process:

    1. Backwash and Empty: We perform a complete backwash to remove the old, dirty DE powder.

    2. Internal Inspection: We open the tank and physically inspect every DE grid (finger or element). This is crucial, as torn grids allow DE powder back into the pool, which is a common problem.

    3. Deep Degreasing: We chemically clean the grids to remove residual oils and scale build-up.

    4. Recharge: We carefully reassemble the filter and add the precise amount of fresh DE powder to restore the filter's peak performance.

3. Sand Filter Maintenance (The Media Flush)

The Challenge: Sand filters require attention because the sand media eventually "channels" or solidifies due to calcium and oil, reducing its filtering ability over time.

  • Process:

    1. Backwash: We perform a standard backwash to clear surface contaminants.

    2. Sand Media Treatment: We use a specialized, professional sand filter cleaner chemical to dissolve built-up oils and calcium that harden the sand.

    3. Extended Rinse: We run an extended rinse cycle to ensure all cleaning agents are flushed out of the sand before returning the filter to service mode.

    4. Sand Change Service: If your sand is over five years old and has lost its effectiveness, we offer complete sand change service to replace the old media with fresh filter sand.

Filter Neglect: Don't Risk Costly Repairs

Ignoring your filter's maintenance ultimately leads to high-cost repairs:

  • High PSI Damage: Excess pressure can damage the internal components of the filter tank and the seals of the pool pump.

  • Wasted Energy: Your pump runs inefficiently, consuming more electricity every month.

  • Permanent Cloudiness: If neglected too long, the cartridges or grids may need full, expensive replacement because the debris has solidified within the media, preventing any flow.S
